Kelsey Mitchell wins three medals in track cycling Nations Cup in Milton

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Kelsey Mitchell of Brandon, Manitoba won three medals in a track cycling Nations Cup in Milton, Ontario this past weekend. She won gold in the women’s keirin on Sunday, silver in the women’s sprint final on Friday, and teamed up with Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Lauriane Genest of Montreal, Quebec, Sarah Orban of Calgary, Alberta, and Jackie Boyle of Toronto, Ontario in the women’s team sprint on Thursday. Mitchell won her gold medal in the women’s sprint at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. Genest won her bronze medal in the women’s keirin, also at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

In the women’s team sprint, Canada placed behind Germany, which won the gold medal, and the Netherlands, which won the silver medal. In the women’s sprint, Mitchell placed behind Emma Hinze of Germany, who won the gold medal, and ahead of Martha Bayona Pineda of Colombia, who won the bronze medal. In the women’s keirin, Mitchell placed ahead of silver medalist Mina Sato of Japan.

The next and last Track Nations Cup in cycling for 2022 will be in Cali, Colombia from July 7-10. The medals for Mitchell, Genest, Orban and Boyle will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
