Jasmine Baird wins World Cup silver in Czech Republic

Jasmine Baird of Mississauga, Ontario won a World Cup silver medal in women’s slopestyle snowboarding on Saturday in Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic. For Baird, it was her fourth career World Cup medal and third this season as she finished third in a women’s big air snowboarding World Cup in Chur, Switzerland on October 23, and finished second in a women’s slopestyle snowboarding World Cup  in Bakuriani, Georgia on March 6.

In Spindleruv Mlyn on Saturday, Baird posted a score of 76.25 points. Kokomo Murase of Japan won the gold medal with a score of 89.25 points. Ariane Burri of Switzerland won the bronze medal with 72.25 points. Baird reached the podium by 11.5 points over Bianca Gisler of Switzerland, who had a fourth place score of 64.75 points.

With the silver medal, Baird moves into second place in the World Cup women’s slopestyle snowboarding standings with 174 points. Murase leads with 260 points. There is one more women’s slopestyle snowboarding World Cup this season. It will take place in Silvaplana, Switzerland on March 27.

The silver medal for Baird was one of three World Cup snowboarding medals for Canadians on the weekend. Elliot Grondin of Sainte-Marie, Quebec won gold in a snowboardcross World Cup in Switzerland, and Megan Farrell of Bracebridge, Ontario won silver in a parallel slalom World Cup in Germany.
