Jared McCann records first career NHL hat trick

Seattle Kraken center Jared McCann of Stratford. Ontario collected his first career National Hockey League hat trick. He accomplished the feat on Saturday in an 8-5 Kraken win over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

McCann scored his first goal of the game at 10:46 of the first period from Ryan Donato. At the time, the Kraken went up 3-1. McCann then put Seattle up 6-1 with a game-winning goal at 13:11 of the first period from Donato and Alexander Wennberg. McCann’s hat trick marker was at 1:54 of the third period from Adam Larsson and Wennberg to put Seattle up 7-3.

McCann was one of two Kraken players with a multi-point game. The other was Yanni Gourde of Saint-Narcisse, Quebec, who had two assists for two points.

In 2022-23, McCann now has 22 goals and eight assists for 30 points in 39 games. He is a +6 with six penalty minutes, seven power-play points, two game-winning goals, 78 shots on goal, 18 faceoff wins, eight blocked shots, 33 hits, 24 takeaways, and 13 giveaways. McCann’s shooting percentage of 28.2% leads the National Hockey League. McCann’s other game-winning goal this season came in a 3-2 Seattle win over the Winnipeg Jets on December 18, 2022.

The Kraken meanwhile are red hot. They have won eight straight games and are in second place in the Pacific Division with a record of 26 wins, 12 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 56 points. Seattle is two points back of the first place Vegas Golden Knights.
