Hockey Canada announces 2018 Spengler Cup roster

Hockey Canada has announced its roster for the 2018 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland. Among the 25 players on the team are 18 players with National Hockey League experience and three players who won the bronze medal for Canada at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

Of the 18 players with NHL experience, 12 played for a Canadian team. They are Kevin Bieksa of Grimsby, Ontario (Vancouver Canucks), Adam Cracknell of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan (Canucks and Edmonton Oilers), Zac Dalpe of Paris, Ontario (Canucks), Matt D’Agostini of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario (Montreal Canadiens),  Chris DiDomenico of Woodbridge, Ontario (Ottawa Senators), Andrew Ebbett of Vernon, British Columbia (Canucks), Aaron Gagnon of Armstrong, British Columbia (Winnipeg Jets), Maxim Lapierre of Brossard, Quebec (Canadiens and Canucks), Torrey Mitchell of Greenfield Park, Quebec (Canadiens), Dominic Moore of Sarnia, Ontario (Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs), Daniel Winnik (Maple Leafs) and Patrick Wiercioch (Senators). The others with NHL experience on the team are Zach Boychuk of Airdrie, Alberta, Jared Coreau of Perth, Ontario,  Simon Despres of Laval, Quebec, Cory Emmerton of St. Thomas, Ontario, Maxim Noreau of Montreal, Quebec and Kyle Quincey of Caledon, Ontario.

Seven players have no NHL experience. They are Colt Conrad of St. Alphonse, Manitoba, Dion Knelsen of Three Hills, Alberta, Jacob Micflickier of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kodie Curran of Calgary, Alberta, Dante Fabbro of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Daniel Vukovic of North York, Ontario and Zach Fucale of Rosemere, Quebec. Meanwhile, Ebbett, Lapierre and Noreau won a bronze medal for Canada at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

Canada will be trying to win its fourth straight Spengler Cup. They play their first game against HC Davos on Boxing Day.
