Former National Hockey League right winger Bobby Gould of Petrolia, Ontario passed away on Friday at the age of 69 according to Mark Malone of The Sarnia Observer on Monday. Gould played 11 seasons in the NHL from 1980 to 1990.
In 697 NHL regular season games, Gould played for three franchises. He was with the Atlanta/Calgary Flames for three seasons from 1980 to 1981, the Washington Capitals for eight seasons from 1981 to 1989, and the Boston Bruins for one season from 1989 to 1990.
Gould had 145 goals and 159 assists for 304 points. He was a +40 with 572 penalty minutes, nine power-play points, 12 shorthanded points, 26 game-winning goals, one hat trick and 1119 shots on goal.
Gould’s hat trick came on October 10, 1981 at the Checkerdome in St. Louis, Missouri. Gould scored one goal in each period in a 6-4 Flames win over the St. Louis Blues. Gould’s hat trick goal was the game-winning goal and came at 3:58 of the third period. Jamie Hislop of Sarnia, Ontario, and Bill Clement of Thurso, Quebec had the assists.
In addition to playing for the Calgary Flames, Gould had another Calgary connection. That is because he was drafted by the Calgary Cowboys ion the eighth round, 70th overall, in the 1977 World Hockey Association Amateur Draft. However, Gould did not play for the Cowboys, and decided to stay at the University of New Hampshire.
