Evan Rodrigues of Toronto, Ontario led the Florida Panthers to a game two Stanley Cup Final win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The Panthers centre scored twice in a 4-1 Panthers win over the Oilers. With the win, the Panthers take a two games to none Stanley Cup Finals series lead and are now only two games away from winning the Stanley Cup.
Rodrigues scored the game-winning goal at 3:11 of the third period. It was an even strength, unassisted marker that put the Panthers up 2-1 at the time. Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard had attempted to clear the puck, but it went right to Rodrigues who scored past Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner from a small opening in the Oilers net.
Rodrigues then put the Panthers up 3-1 with an insurance goal from Anton Lundell and Oliver Ekman-Larsson at 12:26 of the third period. This was a power-play goal and ended the Oilers streak of 34 consecutive penalty kills in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The other two Panthers goal scorers were defensemen and Canadian Aaron Ekblad of Windsor, Ontario, as well as Niko Mikkola. Game three of the Stanley Cup Final now shifts to Edmonton on Thursday.
