Team Canada came through with two gold medals on Sunday at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Ellie Black of Halifax, Nova Scotia won the gold medal in the women’s individual all-around gymnastics competition, and Canadian Olympic silver medalist Joshua Liendo of Toronto, Ontario won the gold medal in the men’s 100 metre butterfly swimming event. In all, Canada won five medals on Sunday. Felix Dolci of Saint-Eustache, Quebec won the silver medal in the men’s individual all-around gymnastics competition, Kylie Masse won the silver medal in the women’s 100 metre backstroke swimming event, and Lia-Monica Fontaine of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec won the bronze medal in the women’s individual all-around gymnastics competition.
Black posted a winning score of 53.05 points. Breanna Scott of Australia won the silver medal with 52.9 points. Fontaine won the bronze medal with 52.8 points. Black reached the podium by 1.5 points. Shantae-Eve Amankwaah of England finished in fourth place with 51.55 points. Black had the third best vault score with 13.85 points, the third best uneven bars score of 13.25 points, the second best balance beam score of 13.2 points and the fifth best floor score of 12.75 points. Black has now won eight Commonwealth Games medals (four gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal).
Liendo won the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record time of 50.42 seconds. Matthew Temple of Australia won the silver medal with a time of 50.43 seconds. Ben Armbruster of Australia won the bronze medal with a time of 50.58 seconds. Liendo reached the podium by 0.75 seconds over Harrison Turner of Australia, who had a fourth place time of 51.17 seconds. Liendo, who won the silver medal in the men’s 100 metre butterfly at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, has won five Commonwealth Games medals (two gold medals and three bronze medals).
In boxing, two Canadians won their round of 16 bouts. Scarlett Delgado of Oakville, Ontario defeated Stephanie Kernachan of Scotland 5-0 in the women’s 54 kilogram division. Gabriel Labrie of Montreal, Quebec defeated Afzal Khan of Pakistan 5-0 in the men’s 65 kilogram division. Meanwhile, in women’s pairs lawn bowling, Emma Boyd of Delta, British Columbia and Kelly McKerihen of Toronto defeated Botswana two sets to none to improve to a record of three wins and one loss.
Canada has now won nine medals at the Commonwealth Games (three gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals). They are third in the 2026 Commonwealth Games standings behind Australia (39 medals) and England (19 medals).
