According to Farhan Lalji of TSN on Sunday, the Edmonton Elks signed three Canadians on Sunday. They were defensive back Royce Metchie of Brampton, Ontario, offensive lineman David Beard of Sherwood Park, Alberta and wide receiver Kaion Julien-Grant of Toronto, Ontario.
Metchie played three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders (2018, 2019, and 2021), and three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts (2022, 2023, and 2024). He has won three Grey Cup titles. Metchie was with the Stampeders in 2018, and with the Argonauts in 2022 and 2024. This past season in Toronto, Metchie had 87 defensive tackles, two forced fumbles, and one interception. Royce Metchie is the older brother of John Metchie III of the Houston Texans.
This is Beard’s second time in Edmonton. He already played in the Alberta capital city for seven seasons starting in 2015 before playing the last two seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Julien-Grant played the last five seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, and in 2023 won a Grey Cup. In 2024, Grant had 46 catches for 486 receiving yards and one touchdown. Julien Grant’s touchdown was five yards from Cody Fajardo at six minutes and 47 seconds into the first quarter in a 30-26 Alouettes win over the Stampeders on July 6, 2024. He played his Canadian university football with the St. Francis Xavier Xmen in Nova Scotia of Atlantic University Sport.
