Eli Bouchard wins slopestyle snowboarding silver at 2024 Winter Youth Olympics

Eli Bouchard of Lac-Beauport, Quebec has won Canada’s second medal at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea on Thursday. The 16-year-old placed second in the men’s slopestyle snowboarding event to win the silver medal.

Bouchard, who has the goofy stance (right foot forward), posted a score of 90 points. Chaeun Lee of South Korea won the gold medal with 96 points. Romain Allemand of France won the bronze medal with 89.25 points. Bouchard reached the podium by a single point. Campbell Melville Ives of New Zealand finished in fourth place with 89 points.

This was Bouchard’s most notable accomplishment to date, and the first time he has won a snowboarding medal outside of North America. He has previously won seven Nor-Am Cup medals in either big air snowboarding or slopestyle snowboarding (one gold medal, three silver medals and three bronze medals). Bouchard’s Nor-Am gold medal came in Beaver Valley, Ontario on March 18, 2022. Prior to winning the silver medal at the Youth Olympics, Bouchard won the gold medal in male slopestyle snowboarding at the Canadian National Junior Snowboarding Championships in Calgary, Alberta on March 21, 2023.

Canada’s other medal at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games also came in snowboarding. Anthony Shelly of Whistler, British Columbia won the silver medal in the men’s snowboardcross on Saturday.
