Each Maritime province medals at 2023 Canada Winter Games

The 2023 Canada Winter Games is entering its final weekend with Prince Edward Island as the primary host province, and all four Maritime provinces landed on the podium on Friday. Nova Scotia won two gold medals, New Brunswick won one silver medal, while Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island won one bronze medal each.

Nova Scotia’s gold medals came in cross country skiing and figure skating. In cross country skiing, Emma Archibald of Fall River placed first in the Para-Nordic five kilometre standing female interval start competition. She posted a time of 16 minutes and 43 seconds. Madison Mullin of Fergus, Ontario won the silver medal with a time of 18 minutes and 19 seconds. In the Special Olympics singles level III female division, Kayla Cooper of Falmouth won the gold medal. Molly Kane of Beresford, New Brunswick won the silver medal. Kariane Provencher of Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec won the bronze medal.

Prince Edward Island’s bronze medal came in male individual recurve archery. Arden Hopkin of Pleasant Grove beat Jamison Hui of Richmond, British Columbia 6-4 in the bronze medal match. Ryder Wilson of Selkirk, Manitoba beat Luke Smollett of Rocky View County, Alberta 6-0 in the gold medal match.

Newfoundland’s bronze medal came in pre-novice pairs figure skating. Lily Evans of Pouch Cove and Mark Butt of Bloomfield placed third with a score of 97.35 points. Julia Xiao and Keith Lau of Winnipeg, Manitoba won the gold medal with a score of 105.53 points. Sarah-Jade Cyr of Laval, Quebec and Etienne Lacasse of Quebec City, Quebec won the silver medal with a score of 103.08 points. Evans and Butt reached the podium by 1.34 points. Megane-Rose Pelletier of Montreal, Quebec and Emerick Rasoanaivo of Longeuil, Quebec was in fourth place with 96.01 points.

In the medal standings, Nova Scotia has 20 medals (six gold medals, five silver medals and nine bronze medals). New Brunswick has 14 medals (two gold medals, four silver medals and eight bronze medals). Newfoundland has three medals (two gold medals and one bronze medal). Prince Edward Island has two medals (one silver and one bronze medal). Quebec leads the overall medal count with 136 medals (50 gold medals, 38 silver medals, and 48 bronze medals).
