Dylan Guenther named NHL First Star of the Week

Utah Ice Hockey Club right winger Dylan Guenther of Edmonton, Alberta has been named the National Hockey League first star of the week according to Alex Tumalip of The Hockey News on Monday. In three games, Guenther had five goals for five points.

Guenther was also a +1 with two power-play points, one game-winning goal, 12 shots on goal, one hit, one blocked shot, and one faceoff win. Guenther began the week with two goals in a 5-2 Utah win over the Chicago Blackhawks on October 8. That was followed by two more goals in a 5-4 Utah overtime win over the New York Islanders on Thursday, and then one goal in a 6-5 Utah overtime win over the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Guenther’s most significant goal was the overtime winner over the Islanders. It came from defenseman Sean Durzi of Mississauga, Ontario and Logan Cooley at 2:18 of the extra period. In the same game against the Islanders, Guenther scored a power-play goal from Clayton Keller and Mikhail Sergachev. Guenther’s other power-play goal came from Barrett Hayton of Peterborough, Ontario and Nick Schmaltz.

After four games this season, Utah is in third place in the Central Division with a record of three wins and one loss for six points. They next play in Anaheim on Wednesday.
