The 13th day of the 2024 Olympic Games takes place on Thursday. Team Canada has medal opportunities in taekwondo, weightlifting, track cycling and hurdles. Skylar Park of Winnipeg, Manitoba won the bronze medal in the women’s 57 kilograms at the 2019 World Judo Championships in Manchester. Maude Charron of Sainte-Luce, Quebec won a gold medal in women’s weightlifting in the women’s 64 kilogram weight class at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, and is now competing in the women’s 59 kilogram weight class as the women’s 64 kilogram weight class is no longer on the Olympic program. In track cycling, Dylan Bibic of Mississauga, Ontario won a UCI Track Nations Cup in the Omnium back in February, while Lauriane Genest of Montreal, Quebec is the reigning Olympic bronze medalist in the women’s Keirin. You can also not count out reigning Olympic women’s sprint champion Kelsey Mitchell of Brandon, Manitoba in the women’s Keirin. Also in hurdles, Savannah Sutherland of Borden, Saskatchewan had great success in women’s 400 metre hurdles, and was sixth fastest in qualifying.
Canada is also looking for its first medal in Olympic history in women’s beach volleyball. Melissa Humana-Parades and Brandie Wilkerson faces Switzerland.
