David Perron registers ninth career NHL hat trick

Detroit Red Wings left winger David Perron of Sherbrooke, Quebec recorded his ninth career National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 7-4 Detroit Red Wings win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Perron scored all three of his goals in the third period. He put the Red Wings up 4-3 at 4:05 of the final frame from Dylan Larkin. That was followed by a game-winning goal on the power-play at 16:20 of the second period from Andrew Copp and Moritz Seider that put the Red Wings up 5-3, and the hat trick 45 seconds later from Larkin and Jordan Oesterle, that put the Red Wings up 6-3.

In 2022-23, Perron has 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points in 73 games. He is a -5 with 46 penalty minutes, 20 power-play points, three game-winning goals, 172 shots on goal, two faceoff wins, 20 blocked shots, 93 hits, 36 takeaways and 29 giveaways.

This was Perron’s first hat trick with the Red Wings. He previously had seven hat tricks with the St. Louis Blues and one hat trick with the Edmonton Oilers. Perron previously scored thrice in a game in a 6-1 Blues win over the Vancouver Canucks on November 10, 2009, in a 4-2 Oilers win over the Canucks on January 27, 2014, in a 6-4 Blues win over the Calgary Flames on October 22, 2016, in a 5-3 Blues win over the Flames on October 11, 2018, in a 5-2 Blues win over the Colorado Avalanche on December 16, 2019, in a 7-3 Blues win over the Los Angeles Kings on October 23, 2021, in a 5-4 Blues loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 19, 2022, and in a 4-0 Blues win over the Minnesota Wild on May 2, 2022. The hat trick against the Wild came in game one of the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
