David Perron records first career playoff hat trick

David Perron of Sherbrooke, Quebec notched his first career National Hockey League playoff hat trick on Monday. Perron scored three times and added an assist in a 4-0 St. Louis Blues shutout win over the Minnesota Wild in game one of the Western Conference quarterfinals from the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Perron scored one goal in each period. He opened the scoring on the power-play with the game-winning goal from Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario, and Torey Krug at 6:15 of the opening frame. Perron then put the Blues up 3-0 with another power-play goal from Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Krug at 16:30 of the second period. Then at 12:34 of the third period, Perron scored from Krug and Brandon Saad.

Perron was one of two Canadians to score for the Blues on Monday. The other was Blues captain Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario who scored from Perron and Justin Faulk at 15:56 of the first period.

In the regular season, Perron had seven career hat tricks with the Blues and Edmonton Oilers. In 2021-22, Perron notched two hat tricks for St. Louis. They came in a 7-3 Blues win over the Los Angeles Kings on October 23, 2021, and in a 5-4 Blues loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on February 19, 2022.
