Darcy Kuemper and Scott Wedgewood have Thursday shutouts

Two Canadian National Hockey League goaltenders recorded shutouts on Thursday. Washington Capitals netminder Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan made 26 saves as the Washington Capitals beat the Arizona Coyotes 4-0 at the Mulett Arena in Tempe, Arizona. Scott Wedgewood of Brampton, Ontario made 34 saves as the Dallas Stars beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-0 at crypto.com Arena.

Kuemper, who recorded a shutout against his former team, made seven saves in the first period, seven saves in the second period, and 12 saves in the third period. Wedgewood had nine saves in the first period, 11 saves in the second period, and 14 saves in the third period. For Kuemper, it was his fifth shutout of the season, which leads the National Hockey League, and 30th of his career. Wedgewood notched his first shutout of the season and sixth of his career.

In the Capitals win over the Coyotes, Dylan Strome of Missisauga, Ontario and Tom Wilson of Toronto, Ontario each had multi-point games. Strome had two goals, while Wilson had one goal and one assist. In the Stars’ win, Tyler Seguin of Brampton, Ontario had two goals and one assist for three points.

This season, Kuemper now has a record of 14 wins, 11 regulation losses, and four losses in extra time, with a goals against average of 2.46 and a save percentage of .920. Wedgewood has a record of seven wins, six regulation losses and three losses in extra time, a goals against average of 2.97 and a save percentage of .911.

The Capitals are fourth in the Metropolitan Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference with 56 points. The Stars lead the Central Division with 61 points.
