Logan Couture has third career hat trick as Sharks beat Sabres

Logan Couture of the San Jose Sharks delivered his third career National Hockey League hat trick on Thursday. Couture, a native of Guelph, Ontario, scored once in the first period and twice in the third period in a 5-1 Sharks win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Couture’s first goal was the game winning goal from Brent Burns of Barrie, Ontario at 4:02 of the first period on the power play. The goal put the Sharks up 2-0 at the time. Couture then scored from Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia and Justin Braun at 4:54 of the third period, which put the Sharks up 3-1. Couture then scored his third goal from Timo Meier and Tomas Hertl into an empty net with 1:47 left in the third period, which put the Sharks up 5-1.

Couture currently leads the Sharks in goals with four. He is tied for the team lead with Joe Pavelski and Kane. Couture also has six points and only trails Kane among Sharks as Kane has seven points.

Couture’s other two career hat tricks came in a 5-3 loss to the New York Islanders on October 21, 2017 and in a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on March 29, 2016. The Sharks are currently in fourth place in the Pacific Division with seven points.
