Connor McDavid becomes the 14th Canadian to score 60 goals in a single NHL season

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario became the 14th Canadian, and 22nd player overall to score 60 goals in a single season. He accomplished the feat in a 4-3 Edmonton win over the Arizona Coyotes at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday with the overtime winner.

The other 13 Canadians to score 60 goals in a season are Wayne Gretzky of Brantford, Ontario (five times with the Oilers), Mario Lemieux of Montreal, Quebec (four times with the Pittsburgh Penguins), Guy Lafleur of Thurso, Quebec (60 goals with the Montreal Canadiens in 1977-78), Steve Shutt of Toronto, Ontario (60 goals with the Canadiens in 1976-77), Bernie Nicholls of Haliburton, Ontario (70 goals with the Los Angeles Kings in 1988-89), Steve Yzerman of Cranbrook, British Columbia (62 goals with the Detroit Red Wings in 1989-90), Luc Robitaille of Montreal (62 goals with the Kings in 1992-93), Phil Esposito of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario (four times with the Boston Bruins), Steven Stamkos of Markham, Ontario (60 goals in 2011-12), Lanny McDonald of Hanna, Alberta (66 goals with the Calgary Flames in 1982-83), Dennis Maruk of Toronto (60 goals with the Washington Capitals in 1981-82), Mike Bossy of Montreal (five times with the New York Islanders), and Reggie Leach of Riverton, Manitoba (61 goals with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1975-76).

In 2022-23, McDavid leads the NHL in not only goals, but assists (78), points (138), and game-winning goals (10) as well. The Oilers have 90 points and are in third place in the Pacific Division.
