Chelsea Carey of Winnipeg, Manitoba will skip Selena Njegovan’s team to start the 2026-27 curling season according to Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday. The reason why Carey will be the temporary skip is because Njegovan is expecting twins.

Njegovan is skipping a new team based out of the province of Manitoba this season. It includes third Erin Pincott of Richmond, British Columbia, second Margot Flemming of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, and lead Krysten Karwacki of Winnipeg. Flemming is the team import. Pincott has moved from British Columbia to Manitoba as she is in a relationship with reigning Brier champion Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg.

Carey is a two-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion while representing the province of Alberta. In 2016 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Carey defeated Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville 7-6 in the final, and in 2019 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Carey defeated Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario 8-6 in the final. The 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts final will be best remembered for the impressive comeback. Homan had a 5-1 lead on Carey after four ends, before Carey scored seven of the next eight points to win the game in 11 ends.

The 2026-27 Grand Slam of Curling Season begins on October 13. The Invitational will be at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, British Columbia.
