Capitals sign Dylan Strome and Red Wings sign Mark Pysyk

Two more Canadians switched teams in National Hockey League free agency on Thursday. The Washington Capitals signed center Dylan Strome of Mississauga, Ontario to a one-year contract worth $3.5 million according to capfriendly.com and the Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Mark Pysyk of Edmonton, Alberta to a one-year contract worth $850,000 according to SB Nation.

Strome will be joining his third National Hockey League team. He has previously played for the Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks. Last season in Chicago, Strome had 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 69 games. He was also a -6 with 28 penalty minutes, 16 power-play points, two game-winning goals, 126 shots on goal, 460 faceoff wins, 33 blocked shots, 11 hits, 47 takeaways and 22 giveaways. Strome’s game-winning goals came in a 2-1 Blackhawks win over the Coyotes on November 12, 2021, and in a 4-2 Blackhawks win over the Anaheim Ducks on March 23, 2022.

Pysyk will be joining his fourth NHL team. He has previously played with the Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers and the Dallas Stars. Last season in Buffalo, Pysyk had three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 68 games. He was a -4 with 16 penalty minutes, 64 shots on goal, 85 blocked shots, 41 hits, 21 takeaways and 20 giveaways. The Capitals have Stanley Cup aspirations this season, while the Red Wings will be trying to get into playoff contention.
