
Two Canadian teams were involved in a National Hockey League trade on Monday. According to Kristen Shilton of ESPN, the Montreal Canadiens are trading right winger Brendan Gallagher of Edmonton, Alberta to the Vancouver Canucks for future considerations.
Gallagher is joining his second NHL franchise. He played the last 14 seasons with the Canadiens.
In 77 games for Montreal in 2025-26, Gallagher had seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points. He was a zero with 39 penalty minutes, five power-play points, 121 shots on goal, six faceoff wins, 20 blocked shots, 98 hits, 11 takeaways and 378 giveaways.
Gallagher was the Canadiens’s fifth round pick, 147th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He played his junior career with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League.
In 911 NHL regular season games, Gallagher has 246 goals and 241 assists for 487 points. He is a +26 with 594 penalty minutes, 91 power-play points, one shorthanded point, 27 game-winning goals, 2512 shots on goal, one hat trick, 322 faceoff wins, 406 blocked shots, 882 hits, 386 takeaways and 334 giveaways. The hat trick came in a 5-1 Canadiens win over the Philadelphia Flyers on February 21, 2019.
Gallagher also played 79 postseason games for the Canadiens. He had 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points. Gallagher was a -12 with 25 penalty minutes, three game-winning goals, 17 faceoff wins, 42 blocked shots, 132 hits, 35 takeaways and 35 giveaways.
