According to CBC Sports on Friday, Kia Nurse of Hamilton. Ontario has signed with the Seattle Storm of the WNBA. She missed the entire 2022 WNBA season while with the Phoenix Mercury due to a knee injury she suffered during the 2021 WNBA Playoffs.
The Storm become the third team in the WNBA she has played for. In addition to one season with the Mercury in 2021, Nurse, a point guard, played three seasons with the New York Liberty from 2018 to 2020. As a member of New York in 2019, Nurse averaged 13.7 points per game and was a WNBA All-Star.
Nurse recently helped Canada to a fourth place finish at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Sydney, Australia. Canada placed behind gold medalists from the United States, silver medalists from China, and bronze medalists from Australia. The greatest achievement for Nurse on an international level was guiding Canada to a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
Nurse is currently one of three Canadians in the WNBA. She is joined by power forward Natalie Achonwa of Guelph, Ontario, and small forward Bridget Charleton of Chatham, Ontario. Both Achonwa and Charleton play for the Minnesota Lynx. Achonwa has also played with the Indiana Fever, and Charleton has played with the Connecticut Sun.
