Canadian Olympic silver medalist Kirsten Moore-Towers of St. Catharines, Ontario retired from competitive figure skating at age 29 according to the Canadian Press on Tuesday. Moore-Towers is best known for winning the Olympic silver medal for Canada in the team figure skating event at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi with former partner Dylan Moscovitch of Toronto, Ontario.
Moore-Towers and Moscovitch were excellent together. They won two United States Classic events, and seven medals on the Grand Prix Circuit (four silver medals and three silver medals), including a silver medal at Skate Canada in 2010 in Kingston, Ontario. They also finished fourth twice in the pairs competition at the World Figure Skating Championships and fifth in the pairs competition at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
However, after the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Moore-Towers and Moscovitch each changed partners. Moore-Towers teamed up with Michael Marinaro (who also retired Tuesday), while Moscovitch teamed up with Liubov Ilyushechkina. Even though Moore-Towers and Marinaro put up decent results (five Grand Prix medals), they seemed to struggle under pressure and delivering when the stakes were at its highest–the Olympic Winter Games. During their lack of chemistry, they finished 11th at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and 10th at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
