Team Canada won the silver medal on Saturday in a 3×3 Women’s Basketball Series in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Canada won all four of their games before losing the gold medal game from the host nation of France.
Canada won Pool A after defeating the Chinese Under 24 team 21-18 and Austria 21-13. Canada then beat Puerto Rico 21-19 in overtime in the quarterfinals, and the Netherlands 21-18 in the semifinals, before losing to France 21-12 in the final. The Netherlands and Germany each won the bronze medal.
In Canada’s win over China, Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and Cassandra Brown of Vernon, British Columbia each had six points. Plouffe led Canada with six rebounds. Plouffe and Brown led Canada with four key assists.
In Canada’s win over Austria, Crozon led Canada with eight points. Plouffe led Canada with nine rebounds, and Brown led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over Puerto Rico, Brown led Canada with nine points, and six rebounds. Meanwhile, Mackenzie Smith of Shelburne, Nova Scotia and Plouffe led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over the Netherlands, Crozon led Canada with eight points and one key assist. Plouffe led Canada with nine rebounds and one key assist.
In the Women’s 3×3 Basketball Tour standings, Canada is in second place with 180 points, 70 points back of first place France. It was their second medal of the season as they won gold in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 24. The silver medal for Canada in Clermont-Ferrand, France, will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
