Canada wins silver at 2022 Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Cup

Team Canada has won the silver medal at the 2022 Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Cup in Antwerp, Belgium. On Sunday, Canada beat Lithuania 16-14 in the semifinals before losing to France 16-13.

In the semifinal, Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta led Canada with eight points, eight rebounds and one free throw. Michelle Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta had three points and led Canada with two key assists. Kacie Bosch of Lethbridge, Alberta had three points and Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan had two points. Bosch and Crozon led Canada with one two-point shot each.

In the women’s bronze medal game, China beat Lithuania 21-11. In the men’s gold medal game, Serbia beat Lithuania 21-16, and in the men’s bronze medal game, France beat Belgium 18-17. France was the only nation to win a medal in men’s and women’s basketball at the 2022 Basketball World Cup.

This was Canada’s first ever medal in the history of the World Cup in 3×3 basketball since the tournament first started in 2012. The previous best finish was a sixth place result for the men at the 2018 World Cup in Manila, Philippines. The Canadian team that year comprised of Michael Linklater of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Steve Sir of Edmonton, Alberta, and Michael Lieffers and Nolan Brudehl of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
