Team Canada has won Pool B at the 2022 Women’s Rugby World Cup. On Saturday (Sunday from New Zealand) from the Trusts Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, Canada defeated the United States 29-14 to improve their record to three wins and zero losses.

Five different Canadian players collected a try against the United States. They were Emily Tuttosi of Souris, Manitoba, Olivia De Merchant of Mapledale, New Brunswick, Alex Tessier of Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton, Quebec, Paige Ferries of Red Deer, Alberta, and Mikiela Nelson of North Vancouver, British Columbia. Canada’s prior wins in Pool B came on October 9 in a 41-5 win over Japan, and on October 6 in a 22-12 win over Italy.

Ironically, Canada will play the United States again in their next match. This game has much greater importance than their battle this past weekend. That is because they are playing the Americans in the quarterfinals on October 29 in Canada at 9:30 pm MT (on October 30 in New Zealand at 4:30 pm). The other quarterfinals have France versus Italy, New Zealand versus Wales, and England versus Australia. The semifinals will take place on November 5, and the gold medal championship final on November 12. Remember in the last Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2017 in Ireland, the United States reached the semifinals, while Canada did not.
