Team Canada won the gold medal in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada on Saturday. In the gold medal game, Canada beat a United States U-24 team 21-19.
Canada won all five games in the tournament. They had a perfect record of three wins and zero losses in Pool A. They beat New Zealand 21-7, the United States U-24 team 16-14, and Romania 22-8 on Friday. Then in the semifinals on Saturday, Canada beat Italy 20-14.
In Canada’s win over New Zealand, Michelle Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta led Canada with 11 points. Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton led Canada with nine rebounds and five key assists. In Canada’s pool win over the United States, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Michelle Plouffe led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over Romania, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan and Jamie Scott each had eight points to lead Canada. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with eight rebounds and Michelle Plouffe led Canada with five key assists. In Canada’s win over Italy, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with 12 points and five key assists, while Katherine Plouffe led Canada with nine rebounds. In Canada’s win over the United States U-24 team, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with nine points and four key assists, and Katherine Plouffe led Canada with seven rebounds.
Canada is in fourth place in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball Tour Standings with 575 points. They are behind China (980 points), France (625 points) and Azerbaijan (611 points). Team Canada has won four events this season. They previously won in Poitiers, France on June 28, in Edmonton on July 30, and in Prague, Czech Republic on August 5. The gold medal for Canada, which interestingly took place indoors in Quebec, will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
