For a sixth time, Team Canada has won the gold medal at the Women’s Under-18 Hockey Championship. In the gold medal game from Madison, Wisconsin on Monday, Canada defeated the United States 3-2. ‘

In the championship final, the three Canadian goal scorers were Alexia Aubin of Levis, Quebec, Ava Murphy of Kitchener, Ontario, and Jocelyn Amos of Ailsa Craig, Ontario. Murphy and Aubin had multi-point games as they each had one goal and one assist for two points.

Team Canada got off to a strong start in the contest as they took a 3-0 lead. The United States bounced back with two second period goals to pull within one. The third period was goalless.

Canada bounced back nicely in the tournament after a terrible start. They were beaten 2-0 by Finland and 7-0 to the United States in Group A play. Canada’s lone Group A win was a 3-1 victory over Sweden. Canada then beat Slovakia 7-0 in the quarterfinals and Finland 2-1 in the semifinals.

The previous times Canada won the Women’s Under-18 Hockey Championship were in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2019. When Calgary hosted the first Women’s Under-18 Hockey Championship in 2008, I had the privilege of being a public address announcer during the round robin stage of the event.
