Canada reaches semifinals of 2026 World Men’s Hockey Championships

Team Canada is in the semifinals of the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championships in Switzerland. On Thursday in Fribourg, Canada defeated the United States 4-0 in one of four quarterfinal games.

It was an excellent game by Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Jet Greaves of Cambridge, Ontario. Greaves made 34 saves for the shutout. He made 11 saves in the first period, 14 saves in the second period, and nine saves in the third period.

Winnipeg Jets centre Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario led Team Canada in scoring as he had two assists. The four Canadian goal scorers were New Jersey Devils right winger Connor Brown of Toronto, Ontario, Canadian Olympic gold medalist and Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, San Jose Sharks centre Macklin Celebrini of Vancouver, British Columbia, and St. Louis Blues centre Dylan Holloway of Calgary, Alberta. Crosby won a gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. 

In the semifinals on Saturday, Canada will be facing Finland and Switzerland will be facing Norway. In the other quarterfinal games on Thursday, Switzerland beat Sweden 3-1, Norway beat Latvia 2-0, and Finland beat Czechia 4-1. Both semifinals will take place in Zurich with the Canada/Finland game taking place at noon MT.
