
Team Canada defeated the Netherlands in the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League from Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday. With the win, Canada improved to a record of three wins and two losses.
The Canadian win was by a score of 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-20. Canada is now in seventh place out of 18 teams. The top eight teams from the preliminary round qualify for the final round in Macau, China from July 22-26.
In the Canadian win over the Netherlands, two Canadians reached double digits in points. It was a notable game for opposite Kiera Van Ryk of New Westminster, British Columbia, who carried the Canadian team on her back. She led Team Canada in every single notable category. They included total points (26), attack points (17), aces (six), and block points (three). Van Ryk also had an efficiency percentage of 16.18%.
The other Canadian player who reached double digits in points was captain and middle blocker Emily Maglio of Coquitlam, British Columbia. Maglio had 11 total points (nine attack points, one block point and one ace).
This was the first of eight Women’s Volleyball Nations League games for Canada in Asia. They also play Bulgaria in Bangkok (June 19), Thailand in Bangkok (June 20), Poland in Bangkok (June 21), China in Hong Kong (July 8), Belgium in Hong Kong (July 9), Italy in Hong Kong (July 11) and Dominican Republic in Hong Kong (July 12).
