Canada beats HC Davos 6-2 at 2024 Spengler Cup

Team Canada defeated HC Davos 6-2 at the 2024 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday. This was Canada’s first game of this prestigious international hockey tournament that begins Boxing Day and ends New Year’s Eve on an annual basis.

Right winger Jonathan Hazen of Val Belair, Quebec led the Canadian team in scoring with three points. One other Canadian player had a multi-point game as left winger Charles Hudon of Alma, Quebec scored twice. Hudon plays for the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League and Hazen has played the last decade with Ajole HC in Switzerland. Both Hudon and Hazen played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Hudon was with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and Hazen was with the Val D’Or Foreurs.

Three more Canadians scored on Wednesday. They were left winger Daniel Carr of Sherwood Park, Alberta, (plays for Lugano in the Swiss League), right winger Logan Shaw of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia (plays for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL), and centre Tanner Fritz of Grande Prairie, Alberta, who posted a shorthanded maker to close out the scoring.

Team Canada will next play Germany’s Straubing Tigers on Saturday. The Tigers play HC Davos in their first game on Friday.
