The Calgary Flames evened their first round playoff series with the Dallas Stats on Monday. In game four of the Western Conference quaterfinal series, the Flames defeated the Stars 4-1 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The Flames got goals from Johnny Gaudreau, Rasmus Andersson, Elias Lindhiolm and Mikael Backlund. Gaudreau’s goal at 7:47 of the third period came on a penalty shot.

Gaudreau in fact became the 25th player in NHL history to score on a penalty shot in the playoffs. Former Calgary Flame Michael Frolik is the only player to score two goals on a penalty shot in the playoffs as he accomplished the feat both times with the Chicago Blackhawks. The only other Flames player to score a goal on a penalty shot in the playoffs was Al MacInnis of Inverness, Nova Scotia in a 5-3 Flames loss to the Los Angeles Kings on April 4, 1990 in game one of the Smythe Division Semifinals.

This was Gaudreau’s second career postseason penalty shot. The first came in game five of the Western Conference Quaterfinals on April 19, 2019. In a 5-1 Flames loss to the Colorado Avalanche, Gaudreau was stopped by Philipp Grubauer.

Game five of the best out of seven series shifts to Calgary. The game will be played on Wednesday night.
