It was singly a magical day for Team Alberta’s Brett Gallant at the 2024 Montana’s Brier at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan. On Sunday, Gallant had two perfect games as Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher’s team out of Edmonton beat Yukon 8-3 and then Ontario 8-2. According to TSN, Gallant is the second curler to have two perfect games in one day at the Brier. The other is Matt Dunstone in 2020.

Team Alberta is one of four teams undefeated to date.  The others are Alberta’s Aaron Sluchinski, Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen, and Manitoba’s Reid Carruthers. McEwen and Carruthers are 3-0 with Bottcher, while Sluchinski is only at 2-0.

Sluchinski came through with the win even though they got a massive scare from Nunavut. Alberta actually trailed Nunavut 5-1 at one time, before coming back to win 12-10. Alberta had three points in the fourth and eighth ends, and four points in the 10th end.

McEwen’s lone win came over Koe on Sunday afternoon. The major shot for McEwen came in the eighth end when he successfully split a guard into the house, which led to two points. At the time, Saskatchewan took the 5-4 lead.

Manitoba’s Reid Carruthers’s team is actually skipped by 2014 Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario. On Sunday, Carruthers won both his games in an extra end. First they beat Ontario 7-6 in the morning and then Northern Ontario 9-8 in the evening.

Three more teams are above .500 at two wins and one loss. There you find Team Canada, Team Northwest Territories and Team Northern Ontario.
