Arthur Margelidon wins bronze at 2022 Judo World Masters

For the second time in his career, Arthur Margelidon of Montreal, Quebec has earned a medal at the Judo World Masters. On Wednesday in Jerusalem, Israel. he placed third in the men’s 73 kilogram lightweight division.

Margelidon won Pool B in Israel with wins over Adrian Sulca of Romania and Murodjon Yuldoshev of Uzbekistan. He then lost to Daniel Cargnin of Brazil in the semifinal, before beating Petru Pelivan of Macedonia in one of two Repechage matches where bronze medals were awarded. Cargnin won the gold medal, Shakhram Akhadov of Uzbekistan won the silver medal, and Yuldoshev won the other bronze medal.

Margelidon was one of two Canadians who won a medal at the Judo World Masters. The other was Christa Deguchi of Lethbridge, Alberta, who won the gold medal in the women’s lightweight 57 kilogram division.

This is the second time in the history of the Judo World Masters that Canada came away with two medals. In 2018 in Guangzhou, China, Margelidon won the silver medal, and Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Jessica Klimkait of Whitby, Ontario won the bronze medal in the women’s lightweight 57 kilogram division. Klimkait won the bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. The bronze medal for Margelidon will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
