Argonauts trade Kurleigh Gittens Jr. to Elks

The Toronto Argonauts traded wide receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of Ottawa, Ontario to the Edmonton Elks for defensive lineman Jake Ceresna according to Justin Dunk of 3downnation.com on Monday. In addition to Ceresna, the Argonauts receive running back Khalan Laborn. In addition to Gittens Jr., the Elks receive a seventh round pick in the 2024 Canadian Football League Draft.

Gittens Jr. has spent the last four seasons with the Argonauts. In 2023, he had 35 catches for 416 receiving yards and one touchdown. The major score came in a 31-15 Argonauts win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on July 21. He had a nine-yard touchdown catch from Chad Kelly at 4:01 of the second quarter, which put the Argonauts up 14-0 at the time.

In Gittens Jr.’s career, he has 167 catches for 2132 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches in 54 games played. He was also part of the Argonauts team that won the 2022 Grey Cup. Toronto beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24-23.

Ceresna was a CFL All-Star with the Elks in 2022. Last season he had career highs with 48 defensive tackles and 12 sacks. Ceresna also had one forced fumble.

This will be the third CFL team for Ceresna. He has previously played one season for the Ottawa Redblacks in 2017, and four seasons with Edmonton (2018, 2021 to 2023).
