Allison Beveridge wins two medals in track cycling at World Cup in Melbourne

Allison Beveridge of Calgary, Alberta won two medals at an International Cycling Union track cycling World Cup in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday. Beveridge won a silver medal in the women’s Omnium and also teamed up with Jasmin Duehring and Georgia Simmerling of Vancouver, British Columbia and Annie Foreman-Mackey of Kingston, Ontario to win a bronze medal in the women’s team pursuit.

In the women’s team pursuit on Sunday, Canada beat the United States to win the bronze medal. The Canadian time in the bronze medal race was four minutes, 17.509 seconds. The United States had a time of four minutes, 21.54 seconds. Australia won the gold medal with a time in the final of four minutes, 13.237 seconds. New Zealand won the silver medal with a time in the final of four minutes, 13.553 seconds.

Canada is now in fourth place in the women’s team pursuit world rankings with 6295 points. Italy leads with 7235 points.

In the women’s Omnium on Sunday, Beveridge had 127 points. She had 34 points from the scratch race, 38 points from the tempo race, 38 points from the elimination race and 17 points from the points race. Beveridge reached the podium by 28 points over Vittoria Guazzini of Italy, who was in fourth place with 99 points. Jennifer Valente of the United States won the gold medal with 139 points and Holly Edmondston of Australia won the bronze medal with 100 points.

Beveridge is now in fourth place in the women’s Omnium world ranking with 2707.5 points. Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands leads with 3330 points. The medals for Beveridge, Duehring, Simmerling and Foreman-Mackey will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Simmerling, Duehring and Beveridge won a bronze medal for Canada in the women’s team pursuit at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Duehring also won a bronze medal in the women’s team pursuit at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
