Alena Sharp in contention at 2024 ShopRite LPGA Classic

Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ontario is in contention after the second round of the 2024 ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, New Jersey. Sharp is currently at -7 and is three strokes off the lead after the second round. Please note that the Shoprite LPGA Classic is only a 54-hole, three-day tournament, rather than the traditional 72-hole, four day tournament.

Sharp had a first round score of four-under-par 67, and a second round score of three-under-par 68. In the first round on Friday, she had six birdies and two bogeys. Sharp birdied the third, fourth, fifth, 12th, 13th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the first and ninth holes. In the second round on Saturday, Sharp she had five birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the third, sixth, seventh, 10th and 18th holes, and bogeyed the first and second holes.

Jenny Shin of Seoul, South Korea is the leader at -10. Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland is in second place at -9. Ssu-Chia Cheng and Wei-ling Hsu of Taiwan, along with South Korea’s Narin An and American Megan Khang are tied for third place and two strokes back of Shin. Those tied for seventh place with Sharp are 2019 United States Women’s Open champion Jeong-eun Lee6 of South Korea, Yu Jin Sung of South Korea, Ayaka Furue of Japan, Mao Saigo of Japan, Yealimi Noh of the United States and Stephanie Kyriacou of Australia.

Sharp is trying to become the second Canadian to ever win the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario won in 2022.
