Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Abigail Strate of Calgary, Alberta won a World Cup women’s ski jumping bronze medal in Villach, Austria on Wednesday. For Strate, it was her fourth career World Cup medal and third in the last week.
Strate had a score of 233.6 metres on the normal hill 98 metre ski jump. Nika Prevc of Slovenia won the gold medal with 262.7 metres. Eva Pinkelnig of Austria won the silver medal with 236.7 points. Strate reached the podium by 1.5 points. Yuki Ito of Japan finished in fourth place with a score of 232.1 points.
In the Women’s World Cup ski jumping standings, Strate is now in seventh place with 283 points. Prevc leads with 521 points.
Strate’s first World Cup medal this season was a bronze medal in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany on December 30, 2023. She then won a silver medal in Oberstdorf, Germany on New Year’s Day. Strate’s first World Cup ski jumping medal was a bronze medal in Hinterzarten, Germany on January 28, 2023.
Strate won her Olympic bronze medal with Alexandria Loutitt of Calgary, Matthew Soukop of Calgary, and Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes of Toronto, Ontario in the mixed team ski jumping event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The bronze medal in Austria will give Strate confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
