Two more Canadians have advanced to the Sunday Showdown of the 2025 Calgary Stampede. After Shelby Boisjoli-Meged of Langdon, Alberta and Scott Guenthner of Provost, Alberta qualified for the final nine in the women’s breakaway roping and the men’s steer wrestling divisions respectively on Sunday, Zeke Thurston of Big Valley, Alberta qualified for the men’s saddle bronc, and Grady Young of Leader, Saskatchewan qualified for the men’s bull riding event on Wednesday.

In the saddle bronc on Wednesday, Thurston had the third best Pool B score of 86 points. While competing on Turf Wars, Thurston won $4500. He was only behind Brody Wells of Powell, Wyoming, who won $7000 with 88 points, and Zachary Dallas of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who finished in second place with 87.5 points for $5500. Thurston was the Pool B aggregate winner with $14,416.67.

In the men’s bull riding, Young placed first with $14,400 in the aggregate standings. He was the Pool B aggregate winner despite being bucked off his bull Lord Fear on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in the chuckwagon racing, Chanse Vigen of Calgary, Alberta had the fastest Rangeland Derby time on Wednesday of 1:12.85. Vigen is the aggregate leader with a six-day time of 7:14.95. Just how good is everything going for Vigen at the moment? Well on Wednesday, he had a one second penalty, and still had the fastest time.
