Memphis Grizzlies centre Zach Edey of Toronto, Ontario was named to the 2024-25 National Basketball Association All-Rookie Team for the regular season according to the Associated Press on Tuesday. Edey only averaged 9.2 points per game in 66 regular season games, but was good enough to be among the top five rookies this season.

Edey was one of two centers selected. The other was second overall pick, Alex Sarr of Bordeaux, France, who plays for the Washington Wizards.

There were also two Grizzlies. The other Memphis player chosen was shooting guard Jaylen Wells of Sacramento, California. The other two players selected were Atlanta Hawks small forward Zaccharie Risacher of Lyon, France and San Antonio Spurs point guard Stephon Castle of Covington, Georgia. Risacher was the first overall pick this past season and Castle was the NBA Rookie of the Year.

In addition to the 9.2 points per game, Edey averaged 8.3 rebounds per game, 1.3 blocks per game, and one assist per game. He had a field goal percentage of .580, three point percentage of .346, and a free throw percentage of .709.

In other Canadian basketball news, it was an admirable performance from Toronto’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on Tuesday. In game one of the Western Conference Finals, he scored 31 points in a 114-88 Oklahoma City win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
