The York University Lions are the 2025 Canadian USport Champions in women’s field hockey. On Sunday, the Lions defeated the University of Victoria Vikes 1-0 in the championship game at the University of Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The only goal scorer in the championship game was forward Juliet Redelaar of Whitby, Ontario. It is fair to say the third year Neuroscience student just scored the biggest goal of her life.

York did not give up a goal throughout the entire university championship tournament. They opened the event with a 0-0 tie against Victoria. York then tied the host school, University of Prince Edward Island 0-0 on Halloween, and then beat the Dalhousie Tigers 5-0 in a Saturday rout. Redelaar was the leading scorer for the Lions on Saturday too as she scored twice. Her goals came in the 17th and 44th minutes. The goal against the Vikes came in the 58th minute. The other three Lions goal scorers on Saturday were Sabine Keon of Markham, Ontario with the game-winning goal (10th minute), Jewel Lew of North York, Ontario (41st minute), and Katie Tye of Inverary, Ontario (53rd minute).

This was the first time York University won the Canadian USport women’s field hockey championship. Victoria had won six titles in a row prior to Sunday.
