The Winnipeg Jets announced on Friday that Dave Lowry of Sudbury, Ontario has been named the new interim head coach of the Winnipeg Jets according to Yahoo! Sports. Lowry will be the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2021-22 National Hockey League season, after it was announced that Paul Maurice of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario resigned, believing the Jets needed a “new voice,” according to Sean O’Leary of The Score.
Maurice had coached the Jets since the 2013-14 National Hockey League regular season. In nine seasons, he had a record of 315 wins, 223 regulation losses, and 62 losses in extra time. Five times the Jets reached the postseason with Maurice in charge, including the 2017-18 season, where the Jets reached the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in five games.
Lowry had been an assistant NHL coach for seven seasons with the Jets, Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings. He has also been a head coach for seven seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen, Victoria Royals and Brandon Wheat Kings.
Now, Dave Lowry gets to coach his son Adam in Winnipeg. So far this season, Adam Lowry has three goals and two assists for five points in 28 games.
The Jets are currently in fifth place in the Central Division with a record of 13 wins, 10 regulation losses, and five points in extra time for 31 points. They are five points back of the Colorado Avalanche for a playoff spot.
