
The Winnipeg Jets are the first Canadian team to clinch a playoff spot in the 2025 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Tuesday, the Jets defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 in overtime and became the second team in the NHL to clinch a playoff spot. Ironically, the first team this season was the Capitals.
The Jets currently are in first place in the Central Division with 102 points. They have a record of 49 wins, 19 regulation losses and four losses in extra time. They lead the Dallas Stars by eight points.
In the Jets’s win on Tuesday, Nikolaj Ehlers scored the game winning goal at 1:28 of the extra period. Defenseman Dylan Samberg and captain Adam Lowry picked up the assists.
During the season, the Jets’s leading scorer has been Kyle Connor. He leads the team in goals (37), assists (49), and points (86). Meanwhile, Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario leads the entire National Hockey League with a shooting percentage of 23.2 as he has scored 35 goals on 151 shots. Meanwhile, it has been a great season for Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who leads the NHL in wins (41), save percentage (.924), goals against average (2.06), and shutouts (six).
There are three more Canadian teams in a playoff spot at the moment. They are the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators.
