Wild trade defenseman Declan Chisholm to the Capitals

The Minnesota Wild have traded defenseman Declan Chisholm of Bowmanville, Ontario to the Washington Capitals according to Rogers Sportsnet on Saturday. In addition to Chisholm, the Capitals received the Wild’s sixth round draft pick, 180th overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals selected Swedish defenseman Aron Dahlqvist. The Wild received prospect defenseman Chase Priskie and the fourth round pick, 123rd overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The Wild selected centre Carter Klippenstein of Lethbridge, Alberta, who played last year with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Chisholm is joining his third National Hockey League franchise. He played four games with the Winnipeg Jets (two games in 2021-22 and two games in 2023-24). Then over the last two seasons, Chisholm has played 95 games with the Wild.

In 66 games in 2024-25, Chisholm had two goals and 10 assists for 12 points. He was a -5 with 10 penalty minutes, two power-play points, one game-winning goal, 69 shots on goal, 69 blocked shots, 33 hits, 27 takeaways, and 83 giveaways.

The first power-play point was a power-play assist. It came in a 3-0 Wild win over the Montreal Canadiens on November 14. Chisholm set up Marco Rossi at 12:19 of the third period to put Minnesota up 2-0. Chisholm’s first goal of the season came in a 3-2 Wild overtime win over the Nashville Predators on November 30. Chisholm opened the scoring with one minute and three seconds left in the first period from Frederick Gaudreau of Bromont, Quebec. The second power-play point was a power-play goal and game-winning goal. Chisholm scored with two minutes and 52 seconds left in the second period from Ryan Hartman and Marcus Johansson on New Year’s Eve in a 5-3 Wild win over the Predators. At the time, Chisholm put the Wild up 4-3.
