
Victoria Mboko of Burlington. Ontario has reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 Miami Open. On Monday, Mboko defeated Andreeva 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 in the fourth round in two hours and 17 minutes. Mboko was seeded 10th in Miami and Andreeva was seeded eighth.
Mboko broke Andreeva three time in nine opportunities. She also had eight aces compared to six for Andreeva. In the third set, Mboko won 81% of her first serve points, while Andreeva only won 47%. This was the third time this year Mboko played Andreeva, the 2024 French Open semifinalist. Andreeva won 6-3, 6-1 in the Adelaide Final in January, and Mboko won 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in the third round of Doha in February.
Mboko’s win over Andreeva was part of a magical run for the Canadian in Qatar. There she also beat two-time grand slam finalist Vera Zvonareva of Russia 6-4, 6-4 in the second round, second seed and two-time grand slam champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and grand slam champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Zvonareva reached the finals of Wimbledon and the United States Open in 2010. Rybakina won Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2026, and Ostapenko won the French Open in 2017.
Mboko will be facing three-time grand slam semifinalist Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic, the 13th seed next in Miami on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Muchova reached the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2021 and the semifinals of the United States Open in 2023 and 2024. Ironically, Muchova beat Mboko 6-4, 7-5 in the final of Doha.
