Victoria Mboko reaches the quarterfinals of Indian Wells

Victoria Mboko of Burlington, Ontario is in the quarterfinals of Indian Wells. On Tuesday, Mboko, the 10th seed, upset the sixth seed, Amanda Anisimova of the United States, 6-4, 6-1.

Mboko had the much better winning percentage than Anisimova on the first and second serve. On the first serve, Mboko’s winning percentage was 82% and on the second serve was 78%. Anisimova’s first serve winning percentage was 57%, and her second serve winning percentage was 31%.

Mboko also made the most of her break point opportunities. She broke Anisimova four times in four opportunities in the match.

This was Mboko’s first time facing Anisimova. The 24-year-old American had a breakout 2025 tennis season as she reached the final of Wimbledon and the United States Open. Anisimova also reached the semifinals of the 2019 French Open.

Next up in the quarterfinals for Mboko is a player who has had great grand slam success. Mboko will be facing the world number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus. Sabalenka won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024 and the United States Open in 2024 and 2025. Sabalenka won their only prior matchup, 6-1, 7-6 in the fourth round of the 2026 Australian Open. The other three quarterfinals have Australian qualifier Talia Gibson versus 14th ranked Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic, third seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan versus fifth seed Jessica Pegula of the United States, and second seed Iga Swiatek of Poland versus the ninth seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.
