
Victoria Mboko of Burlington, Ontario has reached the fourth round of the 2025 National Bank Open in Montreal, Quebec. On Thursday in Montreal, Quebec, Mboko upset Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the third round. Mboko is 85th in the world, while Bouzkova was ranked 39th. This was their first ever meeting head-to-head.
Mboko had the advantage when it came to the velocity of her serve. Mboko had five aces while Bouzkova had one. Mboko broke Bouzkova eight times in 15 opportunities. Bouzkova was dealing with a thigh injury in the third set.
Mboko is the only Canadian left on the women’s side or men’s side. On Saturday, she is in the fourth round against American Coco Gauff, the world number two. Gauff is a two-time grand slam champion as she won the 2023 United States Open and the 2025 French Open. In the 2023 United States Open final and 2025 French Open final, Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in both finals. In the 2023 United States Open final, Gauff defeated Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the 2025 French Open final, Gauff defeated Sabalenka 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. In both matches Gauff delivered an upset as she was the lower seed.
By reaching the fourth round of the 2025 National Bank Open, Mboko will be in the top 70 for the first time in her career. Mboko played Gauff once before. Gauff won 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of the 2025 Italian Open.
