Victoria Mboko of Burlington, Ontario has won her first ever WTA match. It came in the first round of the Miami Open on Wednesday, as Mboko defeated Camila Osorio of Colombia 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
Mboko had the ace advantage over Osorio on Wednesday. Mboko had four aces compared to only one for Osorio. Mboko also saw Osorio’s serve extremely well as she broke the Colombian eight times. What was also impressive was the fact that Mboko had 18 break point opportunities in the match.
What we are seeing from Mboko this year is something extremely special. The Canadian has not done a lot of damage at the WTA level, but has been excellent at the International Tennis Federation level as she has won 27 of 28 matches, and won five ITF tournaments in 2025. Mboko has already won two ITF events this year in France, and one ITF event in the United States, Great Britain and Portugal.
Mboko is ranked 162nd in the world, and received a wildcard by tournament organizers. Osorio, meanwhile was ranked 54th.
Next up for Mboko in round two is Paula Badosa of Spain, the 10th seed. Badosa reached the semifinals of the Australian Open earlier this year before losing 6-4, 6-2 to Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
