Two Canadians are in the finals this weekend in tennis. On the WTA Tour, Victoria Mboko of Burlington, Ontario is in the final of the Hong Kong Open, and on the ATP Tour, Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec is in the final of the Paris Masters 1000 Series Indoor event.

Mboko will be facing Cristina Bucsa of Spain in Sunday’s final. This will be their first meeting in a WTA match with points on the line. Mboko did beat Bucsa 6-3, 6-2 in Italian Open qualifying earlier this year. So far in Hong Kong, Mboko’s most memorable match was the semifinal. That is because she played fellow Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez of Montreal, Quebec for the first time. Mboko delivered a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win. With the victory, Mboko will move into the top 20 in the WTA rankings and move past Fernandez in the world rankings too.

Auger-Aliassime is in his second career Masters 1000 Series final. He previously lost 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 to Andrey Rublev of Russia in the final of the 2024 Madrid Open. On Sunday in France, Auger-Aliassime will face Italy’s Jannik Sinner. There is a lot on the line for Auger-Aliassime. A win over Sinner, and he qualifies for the 2025 ATP World Finals in Turin later this month. Auger-Aliassime is 2-2 all-time against Sinner.
