They accomplished the feat on Saturday night by beating the Los Angeles FC 4-3 on penalty kicks after playing regulation to a 2-2 tie. The two Whitecaps goal scorers in regulation were winger Emmanuel Sabbi of Schio, Italy, and Mathias Laborda of Fray Bentos, Uruguay. The four Whitecaps to score on penalties were midfielder Sebastian Berhalter of Columbus, Ohio, winger Jayden Nelson of Brampton, Ontario, attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld of Aberdeen, Scotland and Laborda.
Vancouver will now play the winner of San Diego FC and Minnesota . They will play in the other MLS Western Conference semi-finals game on Monday night from Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego. Vancouver will get home field advantage if Minnesota wins. Otherwise, Vancouver will play in San Diego.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference Finals, New York City FC will play Inter Miami CF. The top player on Inter Miami CF is Lionel Messi. The Argentinian sensation has six goals in the MLS Cup Playoffs to date.
Vancouver has never won the MLS Cup Playoffs. Now the franchise is only two wins away from winning the Cup.
