The University of Quebec Trois-Rivieres has won the 2026 University Cup. The Patriotes, the third seed, defeated the eighth seed, St. Mary’s University Huskies 3-2 in overtime in the championship game from the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Felix Lafrance of Saint-Eustache, Quebec was the overtime hero. He scored with five minutes and 37 seconds left in the first overtime period from Conor Frenette of Gatineau, Quebec, and Christophe Rondeau of Saint-Lazare, Quebec.
Lafrance and Rondeau had multi-point games for the Patriotes. Lafrance had one goal and one assist for two points, and Rondeau had two assists. Lafrance also led the Patriotes with five shots on goal. The other Patriotes goal scorer was Charles Beaudoin of Bromont, Quebec.
Frenette was the University Cup tournament most valuable player. The primary reason for Frenette’s honour was because of what he accomplished in the semifinals. In a 7-4 Patriotes win over the University of New Brunswick Reds, Frenette had six points (three goals and three assists for six points) and was a +5. Frenette ended the tournament with eight points (four goals and four assists) in three games.
This was the Patriotes’s sixth University Cup title. They were previously victorious in 1987, 1991, 2001, 2003, and 2022. That is the most number of titles among teams in the RSEQ Conference.
